Thursday, March 27, 2003Can a song be Fisked? Why yes, yes it can—as Der Gnatvater would put it. Why it should be is here. Note: What follows does NOT refer to anyone in the military from Vermont. For the simple reason that any such person is not from Vermont. Not the Vermont the rest of you are in. These Yellow Mountains - The NEW Vermont state song These green hills and silver waters are my home. They belong to me. But we teach our sons and daughters “Don’t defend it—no not me! Though our countrymen are slaughtered Let others die to keep us free!” And to all of her sons and daughters May they be strong and forever free. That’s our wish for sons and daughters But it’s bullshit, as you see. Let our kids behave like rotters We don’t care, just as you see. Let us live to protect her beauty And look with pride on the golden dome But let others take the duty “Its so wrong to defend your home” And we let our kids crack snooty To defenders of our home. They say home is where the heart is The green mountains are my home. The green mountains are my home. Yellow mountains are your home, What you let in makes your home, You can always clean your home. (Get that through your golden dome) Don’t like it Vermont? Good—there is such a thing as shame and you’ve earned it by causing the situation. Pull up your sloppy socks and get busy. Get on the phone! Work to put those three little cowards down for harassment, intimidation, and assault—which is just what it was. Do what it takes. Don’t yammer and make excuses. Do it now. Otherwise someday you’re next. And also otherwise, this song will be true. And if you make it true, that’s what it means to sell out. You’ll never forget that you did nothing about this. Oh, and too bad you couldn’t have stood up to (whomever) when they got rid of the old state song. Now look. Pathetic.
