Don't Give It A Thought

I've always lived in the moment,
Strictly the present tense.
I ignore
What’s gone before.
Even immediate history
Is an utterly unclear mystery.
(No wonder I make no sense)

Living and loving the moment,
It's lighter just hugging today.
I accept
One base precept;
My thoughts though devoid of reflection
Are never in need of correction.
(And so present in all that I say)

It's tough sometimes in the moment,
Feeling the pain of Hussein.
No attack,
Not on Iraq.
We really should stop his horrifics
But dearie, don't ask for specifics.
(Even with 'em I couldn’t explain)

It’s so comforting here in the moment,
Believing what ever I want.
I wanna quote
What I emote.
My wonderful tool of cognition
Is the Times editorial position.
(Such a fount of awareness to flaunt)

Some pain will intrude in the moment,
But I can dismiss it with ease.
Take no oil
From any soil.
They drill when it's cloudy or sunny,
And it's all being done for the money.
(Do fill up the limo dear, please)

It’s getting too warm in the moment,
And the rivers are all running dry.
Investigate?
No, we can’t wait.
I am told, but I'm sure that it’s voodoo,
Even I do give off CO2 too!
(It’s a shameful Republican lie)

I'd rather just cling to the moment,
It’s an easier peachier world.
I omit
What doesn't fit.
Don't ask me to be a detective,
It's too easy just being reflexive.
(Can a mind be so fetally curled?)

I really must stay in the moment,
Like so many others you know.
So unkind
To tax a mind.
Our answers are mounting in shrillness
When you probe our perceptual stillness.
(And the cracks are beginning to show)
