Romantic Interlude
In Shakespeare's time they sung of love the best,
When love was pillow'd clouds and ardor there.
Ben Jonson, Michael Drayton and the rest,
Outpoure their youthful hearts for she was faire.
E'en later, in her aspect and her eyes
Did Byron show us beauty in the night.
Their countless ways to praise desiring sighs
Draw near, near as such sighing gains requite.
For you I summon magic from this past
To add to aspect here, most dear as well.
The carriage of your honor standing fast,
Your intellect and sense clear as the bell.
Evoking here a love Iām proud is mine
I write these words to my own Valentine.
